Baby Pasta with ABC Sauce

My baby has tried pasta! And he's 11 months old :)

What have your baby been eating?

The 1st pasta I tried on him was Heinz 7+ and it was super easy to cook and super tiny and soft too, thus, mommies don't need to worry about chocking ^^

I actually boiled the white codfish first, then I added baby pasta and boiled for another 5 minutes.

Preparing the sauce, I just simply named this as "ABC Sauce" as it's kind of mixed of everything..

There were broccoli, cauliflower, pumpkin, carrot, chicken and codfish hehe

Steamed for 20 minutes

Ready & Blend

Let's serve the prince, baby pasta with homemade ABC Sauce

I have tried to replace pasta with Mee-Sua (Flour Vermicelli) too in case he's bored with pasta or porridge :)

Happy eating, baby!

Chicken + Salmon + Carrot + Spinach Baby Porridge

I think I have repeated many times on how to cook/make baby food and honestly the method is pretty much the same; clean, cut into smaller piece, steam, blend & mix. For my cooking method or more recipes, you can check it out here

Below here is just an idea what you can make for your baby.. I made him Chicken + Salmon + Carrot + Spinach porridge

Basically, you need to wash, cut into pieces, steam & blend ingredients and then mix with cereal or porridge.. Or you can mix both (cereal + porridge) My boy loves Frisocrem wheat-based milk cereal because it contains milk & tastes sweet.. Basically he wants a little bit of cereal mixture in every food I serve him :)

Green Porridge, Yummy!!

Salmon + Vegetables Porridge

Salmon + Vegetables (Peas, Carrot & Broccoli) (7 months +)

1) Prepare 2 pcs of Salmon (about 3cm * 3cm per pcs). For the size, it's optional, you can prepare a bigger piece if you'd like to :) I normally buy my Salmon at supermarket, cut it into pieces and put inside ziplock bags and store it inside freezer :)

Then, prepare 1 baby carrot (small size), 1 tbsp. of frozen peas & a few of broccoli florets, (discard stem)

2) Soak frozen salmon in cold water for 10 minutes (to defrost it) before steaming it

3) Cut baby carrot into small pieces & peel broccoli into smaller piece

4) Steam salmon & vegetables (peas, carrot, broccoli) for 20 minutes (I used Avent 2 in 1 blender & steamer)

5) Pour half of the steamed water from steaming salmon & vegetables away, if not, it's going to be very watery

6) Blend both steamed salmon & vegetables. Of course, add more water if the blended salmon + vegetables consistency is too thick. Adjust accordingly! Blend until salmon + vegetables mixture looks pretty much like porridge :)

7) Add salmon & vegetables mixture into white porridge. Stir well!

The color doesn't look very appetizing, but hey, it's healthy & quite tasty :)

White Nectarine Puree

Any mommies tried white nectarine puree for dearest babies before?

I tried and until now, I'm confused & unsure if he really likes it or hates it, hahaha!

My little one's face showed he was so disgusted by the taste but his mouth acted otherwise.. He ate it (almost finished though) but just his face showed hatred towards white nectarine :D

Nectarines and Peaches are pretty much the same fruits, just that there's no fuzz on nectarine skin. Both fruits are high in Vitamin A and C and contain a great amount of fiber. Good for constipation!

White Nectarine Puree (6 months +)

1) Pick 2 small sized white nectarines (mine is Australian grown). Wash, Peel and Cut into pieces

 2) Steam it for 20 minutes

My freshly steamed nectarine

3) Remove the steamed water but don't throw the precious water away. The puree is going to be very watery if you don't remove the steamed water (Nectarine has high water content)

4) Use the steamed water to mix with Frisocrem wheat-based milk cereal. This is absolutely optional. I prefer to mix with a little bit of wheat-based milk cereal, so my nectarine puree tastes sweeter (some nectarines can be a little sour, although some are sweet). My boy loves sweet taste and there's no way he wants to eat sour puree :D

5) Blend steamed nectarine after you remove the steamed water from your blender

6) Mix wheat cereal mixture with blended nectarine. Stir well

7) Ready & Feed the baby!

He showed this funny face when he was eating nectarine or peach puree.. Face expression & mouth showed otherwise, hahaha!!

Salmon + Carrot + Wheat Cereal Puree

Mamas, do you know Salmon contains DHA that is very important for baby's brain and eye development? and Carrot contains essential vitamins that are very important to improve baby's intestinal health?

How about to combine the power of orange food together to make baby's super food?

Salmon smells a little fishy and it's good to combine something sweet like carrot or sweet potato to balance out the whole fishy smell. Plus sweet vegetables such as carrot and sweet potato increase my boy's appetite :)

Let's try Salmon + Carrot + Wheat Cereal Puree for your little one :)

My baby boy loves this recipe and I hope your baby enjoys too :)

Salmon + Carrot + Wheat Cereal Puree (7 months +)

1) Prepare 2 pcs of Salmon (about 3cm * 3cm per pcs). For the size, it's optional, you can prepare a bigger piece if you'd like to :) I normally buy my Salmon at supermarket, cut it into pieces and put inside ziplock bags and store it inside freezer :)

Then, prepare 1/2 carrot (medium size). If possible, buy premium carrots, it's much sweeter.. Baby carrots are very sweet too :)

2) Soak frozen salmon in cold water for 10 minutes (to defrost it) before steaming it

3) Cut half carrot into small pieces

4) Steam salmon & carrot for 20 minutes (I used Avent 2 in 1 blender & steamer)

5) Pour half of the steamed water from steaming salmon & carrot into a bowl.  Don't throw away that precious steamed water, it's super nutritious and we are going to use it again later to mix baby's wheat cereal. The reason is if you don't remove half of the steamed water, it's going to be very watery when you blend.

6) Blend both steamed salmon & carrot. Of course, add more water if the blended salmon + carrot consistency is too thick. Adjust accordingly! Blend until salmon + carrot mixture looks pretty much like porridge :)

7) Remember the steamed water you pour into a bowl (step no. 5) ? Use that super nutritious steamed water to mix your wheat or rice cereal. I use Frisocrem wheat-based milk cereal. Feel free to use other brands too as long as your baby likes it, mommy! ^^

8) Add salmon & carrot mixture into wheat cereal mixture. Stir well!

9) Serve the baby!

He likes it :)

More??

Yummy!

Avocado + Egg Yolk + Wheat Cereal Puree

Mamas,

Have you tried Avocado + Egg Yolk + Wheat Cereal Puree for your baby?

I tried and my baby quite liked it! :)

Avocado + Egg Yolk contain DHA which is very important in brain development. Providing an adequate amount of these nutrients will assist cognitive development at baby's crucial stage in life :)

Mashed egg yolks are safe for babies below 1 year old and after 1 year old, it's alright to introduce egg whites too.. I read that egg whites should be avoided if babies are below 1 year old due to allergy & high protein reasons. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Avocado + Egg Yolk + Wheat Cereal Puree (6 months + )

1) Pick one ripe avocado, blend it and add warm water to get into puree consistency. Puree consistency looks smooth like yogurt!

2) Prepare 2 tbsp. of Frisocrem wheat-based milk cereal with warm water. You can choose other brands too as long as your baby likes it :)

3) Boil an egg in water and remove egg yolk and mash. I normally use half egg yolk.

4) Mix wheat cereal mixture with blended avocado and add mashed egg yolk. Stir well!

5) Ready & Serve! This recipe is very simple, yet very nutritious for baby :)

Making Baby Food: Broccoli + Peas + Wheat Cereal Purees

Fellow Mommies,

I have one new recipe to share. I'm making super simple yet very healthy food for baby EJ: Brocolli + Peas + Wheat Cereal Purees :)

If you want to know more baby recipes I have been making for my little boy, here's the LINK

How to prepare:

1) Using my Avent baby food maker (the one does both steaming & blending), I steam broccoli (about 1/2 cup, only florets, discard stem) and peas (about 2 tbsp.) for 20 minutes

Look at my nicely steamed broccoli & peas. If you go to NTUC/supermarket to get broccoli, it's best to choose Australian grown broccoli. I'm not sure why but baby EJ prefers Australian grown broccoli. I tried Chinese grown broccoli previously and he didn't like it as much as Australian grown broccoli.. What a smart baby, he's all about the quality & great taste! For the peas, I used frozen peas but make sure you leave it at room temperature for a while (kind of defrosting it) before steaming it!

2) Blend it! It's best to blend for a little longer because peas can be a little difficult for my baby to swallow. It's the outer shell, perhaps?

3) Prepare 3 tbsp. of Frisocrem wheat-based milk rice cereal. Mix with warm water and add broccoli and pea mixture and stir well

P/S: first time moms, in case you aren't sure how much water to mix. You can mix cereal with warm water until the mixture looks as smooth as yogurt. That's the right consistency.. Just add a little water first, stir then add a little water again, stir until your cereal has the perfect yogurt consistency (not too dry but not too watery too! )

My son absolutely loves Frisocrem wheat-based milk rice cereal because it tastes sweet! He simply appreciates sweet taste! I personally think wheat is healthy for my growing baby because wheat is rich in carbohydrates and vitamin B to provide more energy for my baby to grow!

The soluble fibre in beans (such as peas) absorb water to soften solid waste and contains probiotic helps to fight against harmful bacteria in the digestive system. (Info credited from Frisocrem booklet)

Dark green vegetables (such as broccoli, spinach, etc) contain plenty of magnesium. Dark Green veggies help to strengthen teeth and bones for my little one :)

Broccoli + Peas = Perfect Combination.. Yes, mommies??

4) Done and ready to serve the little prince!

The prince is waiting!

First Spoon of healthy greens :)

Yum Yum Yum...

He wants more!

Gimme more!!

My prince enjoyed my healthy recipe!

I hope your prince or princess enjoy my recipe too and until next sharing,

Making Baby Food for first stage & 6 months onwards!

Fellow Mommies,

This post is to share with you how I make my solid food for my baby boy. Most of mommies may know how to make this or perhaps better than what I did for my baby and yeah, I would love to hear from other mommies too :)

Baby EJ has started solid when he was approaching 5 months old and his first solid food was Cerelac Rice Cereal + Breast Milk (as recommended by his pedi to start a little early)

Rice Cereal + Breast Milk (4.5 - 5 months +)

How to make: 1) Put 40 ml of breast milk into a baby bowl
                         2) Put 4 tbsp. of rice cereal
                         3) Mash it with baby spoon

It depends on the consistency you want, you can add more milk to make it more watery or put lesser milk to make it thicker. But for my baby, 40 ml of milk is just a perfect consistency. The rule of thumb is to make sure the rice cereal looks pretty much the same as runny yogurt :)

Before I start, this is what I use to make little EJ's solid food. This Avent baby food maker can do both steaming & blending.. Highly recommended to mommies!

And also make sure you have lots of fresh ingredients at home :)

Remember whatever purees you make, make sure the consistency is like yogurt, you can add milk or water to make it less thick or add rice cereal for thicker consistency!

I don't normally keep my baby food in the fridge or freeze it for later use because I want him eating fresh food I prepare every day. So I eat or discard the rest (in the blender or if he can't finish his food)

Potato & Carrot Puree (5 months +)

How to make:

1) Wash, Peel & Cut (& re-wash) in small pieces organic baby carrots (about 2 finger sized baby carrots) & potato (1 small-medium sized potato)
2) Steam for 20 minutes or boil in boiling water for 15 minutes (I normally steam!)
3) Add 1-2 tbsp. of rice cereal into food blender for thicker consistency
4) Blend all together until it becomes puree
5) Add water if necessary (if you find it's too thick, but so far I don't need to add water because I steam my potato & carrot & the steamed water remains inside the blender, thus there's no need to add water)

My boy loves it!

Having Potato + Carrot Puree with yummy toes as dessert ^.~

Apple + Pear Puree and/or banana ( 5 months +)

How to make:

1) Choose apple & pear that taste sweet (my boy hates it when his food is sour!)
2) Peel and cut into pieces
3) Steam for 15-20 minutes
4) Add half banana if you want too! No need to steam banana
5) Blend for a few minutes and serve the baby!

He loves it although his face shows otherwise but he always finish his apple + pear puree :)

Baby EJ eating apple purée for the first time, lol!! (I know it's a bit cruel to post this but his face is just too hilarious)

Avocado Puree ( 5 months +)

How to make:

1) Pick the ripe avocado (dark & soft when you press with fingers)
2) Cut, Peel, Scoop the avocado & put everything into food blender
3) Add 60 ml of breast milk
4) Blend everything
5) Serve!! My baby loves it!! It's very healthy and contains lots of good fat  :)

Avocado is one of the easiest solid foods that takes only a few minutes to make :)

Sweet Potato + Carrot Puree (5 months +)

How to make:

1) Choose yellow flesh sweet potato (Vietnamese Sweet Potato, it tastes really sweet) & baby carrot
2) I normally will make 1 med sized sweet potato + 2 finger sized baby carrots
3) Boil sweet potato (I don't peel off the skin) in boiling water for half an hour (the reason I don't steam sweet potato is because sweet potato turns brown the moment I peel off the skin, thus it doesn't look good! although it's still safe to be eaten!)
4) Peel, Cut & Steam carrots for 20 minutes (steam it, so the vitamins stay!)
5) Peel the boiled sweet potato
6) Blend boiled & peeled sweet potato together with steamed carrots
7) Add warm water for yogurt consistency

My boy's favorite is of course sweet potato :)

Porridge (6 months + )

What to prepare & How to make:

1) Pick organic white rice. I recommend organic because it's free from chemical & it takes 3 years to grow the rice.. It's healthier & safer!

2) Invest on slow cooker (it makes porridge more nutritious & softer)

3) One Small Coffee Cup for measurement (1tbsp of rice = 1 cup of water, my boy's currently taking 1.5 tbsp. of rice, that is equal to 1.5 cup of water)

4) Clean the organic rice

5) Cut & clean one small piece of meat (I use pork)

6) Cut & clean one small piece of pumpkin (you can alter too, like one day is pumpkin, the other day is carrot or potato or sweet potato or broccoli or even spinach) you can mix two vegetables too :)

7) Soak into water one dried Japanese scallop for 15 minutes (to clean it) Dried scallop makes porridge taste good! Scallop has nutritional elements!

Let's make the  baby porridge:

1) Pour all ingredients (rice, vegetable, pork, dried scallop and 1.5 cup of water) into the ceramic bowl

2) Normally it will be perfectly cooked in 3.5 hours (you can adjust the water level of your slow cooker accordingly, normally the manual book will let you know how much water should you put outside the ceramic bowl to cook for either 3.5 or 5 hours)

3) That's it, just wait for 3.5 hours for it to be cooked!

4) This is how it looks like after being cooked for 3.5 hours... (I use different type of vegetable each day, it can be pumpkin, spinach, broccoli, carrot, sweet potato, etc)

5) This is how my porridge looks like & it's ready to feed the baby! Technically, he's eating white/plain porridge but it's not tasteless at all.. In fact, it's tasty & pretty sweet :)

In my tradition, young infants are not allowed to eat meat until they are 8 months and above, but we do put meat (preferably pork) when we cook baby's porridge because we believe that the fat & broth extracted from the meat is more nutritious than the meat alone. Same rule applied to putting dried scallop, carrot, pumpkin, etc to cook baby's porridge.. It's to extract the good & natural broth :)

In other tradition, mommies use blender to blend meat & vegetables together with the porridge to make baby's food, but I prefer to follow my mother's old tradition :)

Nevertheless, it doesn't have to be plain all the time, as you can see from the picture below on the right side. I mash cooked pumpkin to my baby's porridge and yes, it's sweeter & tastier! The pumpkin is super soft & very easy to mash because it has been cooked together with the meat & porridge for 3.5 hours.. You can also mash other things such as potato, carrot, spinach or broccoli :)

6) I feed my 6.5 month old baby boy porridge twice a day and normally I cook my porridge at 7am and it's ready by 11am for his lunch. I cook porridge once a day & the rest of porridge, I put inside food thermos to keep it warm & to feed him again at 4pm (early dinner)

Yummy porridge in the thermos :)

I hope my sharing can be useful for first time mommies & don't hesitate to ask me should you need more information on how I make my baby's first solid food!
